As the Darkness Grows - Let There Be Light

Light is one of the first things God ever spoke into existence.

Before land and sea. Before stars and seasons. Before plants, animals, or people.

📖 “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” — Genesis 1:3

God did not create light because He needed it. He spoke light because He is light.

📖 “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” — 1 John 1:5

From the very beginning, light has represented far more than visibility. In Scripture, light is truth, life, holiness, clarity, and presence. Wherever God’s light appears, order follows chaos, growth follows barrenness, and truth exposes what was hidden.

Light as Truth, Direction, and Life

Throughout the Bible, light is used again and again as a metaphor for guidance and truth.

📖 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Light allows us to see where we’re going. Without it, even familiar terrain becomes dangerous. This is why Scripture consistently links light with wisdom and understanding — not because life becomes easy, but because it becomes clearer.

📖 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12

He didn’t claim to show the light. He claimed to be the light.

From Source to Reflection

One of the most astonishing moments in Scripture is when Jesus turns to ordinary people and says:

📖 “You are the light of the world.” — Matthew 5:14

Not the source — but the reflection.

Just as the moon reflects the sun, believers are called to reflect the light of Christ into the world around them. This is not about perfection or performance. It’s about presence. A steady, faithful glow in a world growing increasingly dim.

📖 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

Darkness can't defeat light. It only reveals it.

Light at the End of the Story

Light is not only how the story begins — it is how it ends.

Scripture tells us that in eternity, we will no longer need sun or moon:

📖 “The city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” — Revelation 21:23

God has always been light. He will always be light.

Everything in between is an invitation to walk in it.

What Walking in the Light Looks Like Today

Walking in the light in today’s world is not always popular because it exposes the level of darkness that is present.

It looks like:• Choosing truth over comfort• Living with integrity when no one is watching• Being honest about money, time, and priorities• Refusing to constantly numb ourselves into distraction•

Letting God’s Word illuminate our decisions

Light exposes — but it also heals.

Practically, this means being mindful of what we allow to shape our minds and hearts. What we consume. What we believe. What we repeat. Light clarifies what belongs and what doesn’t.

Practical Ways to Cultivate Light in Daily Life

Here are a few simple, tangible ways to live more aligned with light:

1. Start your day with actual light. Morning sunlight helps regulate the body and signals wakefulness. Even a few minutes outdoors can shift perspective. Limit artificial light as much as you can.

2. Limit artificial noise. Constant screens and stimulation dull discernment. Quiet restores sensitivity to truth.

3. Anchor decisions in Scripture. Light grows when choices are filtered through God’s Word instead of culture’s trends.

4. Practice honest stewardship. Light brings clarity to how we use money, time, and energy. Hidden chaos thrives in darkness.

5. Be willing to stand out gently. A small lamp in a dark room makes a big impact.

A Final Reflection

Light was spoken into being at creation. Light will remain when everything else fades.

Until Christ returns, we are called to reflect that light here.

📖 “Walk as children of light.” — Ephesians 5:8

In a world filled with confusion, distraction, and noise, light is still powerful. It still guides. It still reveals. And it still points us back to the One who has always been — and will always be — Light.
